Haitian freighter, Port of Miami

The Port of Miami centers around Dodge Island, the facilities are some of the most modern in the world with cruise ship terminals on the north side of the island and commercial freight terminals on the south side. Over the past year there has been extensive dredging and expansion of the Dodge Island Facilities.

Here is a live-cam (This used to be a live-cam, no longer, and you'll have to surf around a bit. But, it still offers a lot of views of the Port of Miami area.) of the Port of Miami, counting from the left you see in frame one the east end of Dodge Island, frame two and three in the foreground is the offices of the Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Lines. In the background is Government Cut and the MacArthur Causeway. In frame one to the left is the Port Blvd. Bridge. The Cam is looking NNE in frame one and is looking N of E in the last frame. In frame four center background you can see the two buildings that mark the north side of the entrance into Government Cut. The smaller of the two has a charted navigation light. The larger is brand new, just opened and is part of a large controversy between the public and the contractor's dealings with the Miami officials. The larger of the two, the name escapes me, can been seen more than fifteen miles into the Straights of FL. There are a couple of other cam shots that might be of interest to the viewer including one of the sky, for weather information and some close ups of the beach.
